To adapt tool for a different length of insert.

Unscrew prewinder retainer from adaptor and remove prewinder complete with mandrel assembly from adaptor. NOTE: This is a LEFT HAND thread. |

Unscrew threaded end of mandrel through rear thread in prewinder. |
 |
| 3. |
Disassemble the shim washers and spacer over the threaded end of the mandrel. |
 |
| 4. |
Select the correct shim washers and spacer for the length of insert to be installed from the information below. |

(a) |
For inserts up to and including 1/4" nominal thread size |
 |
| |
|
(i) For 1D long inserts - use 3 shim washers 0.011" thick and spacer marked 1 D. |
 |
| |
|
(ii) For 1.5D long inserts - use 3 shim washers 0.011" thick and spacer marked 1.5D. |
 |
| |
|
(iii) For 2D long inserts - use 3 shim washers 0.011" thick and spacer marked 2D. |
 |
| |
(b) |
For inserts larger than 1/4" nominal thread size |
 |
| |
|
(i) For 1D long inserts - use 1 shim washer 0.011" thick and 3 shim washers 0.022" thick and spacer marked 1 D. |
 |
| |
|
(ii) For 1.5D long inserts - use 1 shim washer 0.011" thick and 3 shim washers 0.022" thick and spacer marked 1 1/2D. |

| |
|
(iii) For 2D long inserts - use 1 shim washer 0.011" thick and 3 shim washers 0.022" thick ONLY. |

Assemble the shim washers over the threaded end of the mandrel and push them as far as they will go. NOTE: Always assemble the thinnest shim washers first followed by the thicker ones. |

Assemble the spacer over the threaded end of the mandrel and push up to the shim washers. |
 |
| 7. |
Screw threaded end of mandrel assembly into the rear thread of the prewinder and continue screwing until the two threads disengage. |

| 8. |
Slide head of mandrel into bore of driving sleeve taking care to ensure that the mandrel pin engages in the driving key slot. |
 |
| 9. |
Locate prewinder spigot in bore at end of adaptor housing. |
 |
| 10. |
Re-assemble prewinder retainer to adaptor (LEFT HAND thread) and lightly clamp prewinder in position. |
 |
| 11. |
Rotate prewinder into most suitable position for loading and operating the tool and clamp firmly in this position. |
